Behind Our Scenes: Meet Surya


When someone has worked with you for nine years and voted “Employee of the Quarter” most recently by his colleagues, you know you have a special team member. And at Muntigs Bar & Restaurant at Batu Karang Lembongan Resort & Day Spa, we are so proud to have Surya on our Kitchen Team. We have watched him progress from starting out as a Butcher, then moved to Chef de Partie where he has been holding steady for many years. He has also now just been promoted to Junior Sous Chef from our new Executive Chef from Germany, Matthias Beer. Did we also mention he has just had a baby girl as well? Life is deservedly good for Surya, and he has every reason to be happy. A delightful team member to have around, Surya is always smiling, treating everyone kindly. He loves working at Batu Karang because of the Junior Kitchen team members, as he says they are full of energy and work so hard. One steward in particular who had a funny story, who was taking a nap on his break and his brother happened to walk by and threw water on him! Those hard workers deserve their rest! In all seriousness, Surya is very much looking forward to learning as much as he can from Executive Chef Matthias with the upcoming changes on the menu, and also helping to bridge the communication between teams. With all gratitude for Surya’s hard work and positive attitude, this is reflected in the dishes he serves – wow!
